The Hiring of an Attorney

The hiring of an attorney is an extremely important decision, one that can make all the difference in your case and your future. Before you hire an attorney ask these questions:

  • What is the attorney’s experience with these types of cases? Many attorneys practice in the area of personal injury and wrongful death, but there is a difference in attorneys. Make sure the attorney you hire has the experience necessary to properly and zealously represent you.
  • Is your attorney willing to actually take your case to trial? Not all cases go to trail, but if the insurance company is not treating you fairly, you want a trial attorney with first hand knowledge of the law and first hand experience in the courtroom.
  • Does the law firm that you are considering work on a volume practice where they are looking for a quick settlement and then they move on to the next case? Or, is the law firm dedicated to giving you and your case the time and attention it deserves?
  • Most importantly, ask who is going to be handling your case? Will it be an attorney or a paralegal or other support staff? You are paying for an attorney. Why not insist that an attorney is performing the work on your case? When you meet with a person from the law firm for the first time, make sure you are meeting with an attorney.
